Exciting Excursions Support High Quality Education

Excursion

We take every opportunity to provide an excellent educational experience. Excursions at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ Christian College extend learning far beyond the classroom, with every experience carefully designed to deepen understanding, inspire curiosity, and connect students with the world around them.

Across every year level, »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ÍøÕ¾ is committed to creating rich and meaningful learning opportunities. Whether engaging with living history, conducting field research, or exploring local heritage, we take every opportunity to provide an excellent educational experience that inspires, challenges, and equips our students for the future.

History Students Meet Author and Holocaust Survivor on Excursion to the City

As part of their study of World War II, Year 10 History students had the privilege of meeting Holocaust survivor Dr Peter Krause at the Queensland Holocaust Museum. Dr Krause has published his family’s story in his book, Slow Train to Auschwitz. Dr Krause reflected on his early life, sharing how, as a young child, he and his family narrowly escaped the horrors of Auschwitz through extraordinary circumstances and faith.

Students also visited the MacArthur Museum (US General MacArthur’s office in Brisbane during the war), which has a new display about Australians who were held overseas as prisoners of war (POWs). The students enjoyed exploring the WWII ship, the Diamantina, at the Maritime Museum, on which the Japanese signed the final surrender to end the war in 1945. Mr John Barrie, the great-grandfather of Archie K (Year 9) and Jasmine K (Year 7), was serving aboard the Diamantina and witnessed this historic event. His story was one of many from our community featured in this year’s Anzac Service.

Geography Students Explore Tourism’s Impact on the Environment

Year 12 Geography students travelled to Cylinder Beach on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) to investigate how tourism may be transforming the local landscape. Students collected field data on vegetation, trampling, access tracks, the extent of built surfaces and microclimates to map patterns of environmental change. They returned to the island the following week to identify data gaps and strengthen the reliability of their conclusions.

Back on campus, they analysed their findings, transformed data into maps and graphs, and developed management strategies that balance environmental protection with recreational use. It was two rewarding days – intellectually rigorous, sandy, but thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you to our teachers for organising and supervising this learning adventure.

Year 2 Explores Brisbane’s Past at City Hall

Our students enjoyed an exciting History excursion to Brisbane City Hall as part of their learning about how life has changed over time. The visit was part of the Brisbane Now and Then program, which helps students compare Brisbane’s past with the city we know today.

During the workshop session, students examined old photographs of Brisbane and discussed how everyday life has changed over the years. They explored topics such as how people travelled, how children played, and how learning has evolved. One of the highlights was investigating historical objects from the museum’s collection. Students worked together to guess what each object was, what it was used for in the past, and what modern item we use instead.

After the workshop, students enjoyed a guided tour of City Hall and the Museum of Brisbane. They used a special activity booklet to help them observe and record interesting details as they explored the building and exhibits. The tours encouraged students to think about the differences between Brisbane’s past and present, bringing their classroom learning to life.

The excursion was a wonderful hands-on learning experience, allowing students to see real historical objects and explore one of Brisbane’s most iconic buildings. The Year 2 teachers were proud of how curious and engaged the students were throughout the day.
